First introduced in 1873, the Colt Single Action Army (SAA), also known as the “Peacemaker,” is a legendary revolver that symbolizes the era of the American West.

In 1999, Tanaka Works brought this iconic revolver to the airsoft market as a gas revolver featuring the innovative PEGASUS system, earning high acclaim for its simple yet realistic design that integrated the gas system directly into the cylinder. In 2005, the model was further refined with a detachable cylinder, significantly improving realism and ease of maintenance, while also contributing to the growth of competitive disciplines such as Cowboy Shooting and Fast Draw.

However, the intense demands of competitive use revealed durability limitations. Around 2018, a complete redesign was initiated under the theme of high durability, high realism, and practical performance. The result was PEGASUS II, featuring a newly developed mechanism in which a reinforced base pin directly actuates the valve. With the addition of an adjustable hop-up system, an inner magazine design, a total capacity of 25 rounds including reserve BBs, and strengthened, more realistic internal components, PEGASUS II is suitable for both skirmish and competitive use, while maintaining parts compatibility with previous models.

Building upon the classic SAA silhouette, this PEGASUS II SAA variation deliberately combines a stainless-color finish with a non-fluted cylinder. Traditionally, the fluted cylinder is considered the standard for the SAA; however, the non-fluted design emphasizes the presence of the cylinder itself, giving the revolver a more solid and imposing appearance. The smooth cylindrical profile highlights the inherent structural beauty of the SAA and evokes the impression of a custom firearm shaped by personal preference, or a practical tool refined over years of use, rather than a mass-produced military sidearm.

Non-fluted cylinders were originally designed to withstand higher pressures, such as magnum cartridges, by forgoing weight-reducing flutes—an origin that inherently conveys strength and practicality. In the realm of real firearms, examples of non-fluted cylinders can be found in Colt’s 3rd Generation SAA models. When paired with a stainless finish, the appearance recalls modern reinterpretations of the classic single-action revolver, such as the Sturm Ruger Vaquero.

Additionally, Cimarron, well known for its SAA replicas, has produced stainless models emphasizing ease of maintenance. Rather than aiming for strict historical accuracy, this model embodies a revolver shaped by the owner’s taste—a custom piece that prioritizes aesthetics, or an SAA that feels as though it has been refined and preserved across generations.
